 “The Promise: Untold Stories of South Carolina’s African American Patriots” is rooted in real history of 1700s America.   Annette Dees Grevious, along with Brandi LaShay, are writers for the Claflin Theatre Ensemble production highlighting the experiences of six enslaved Black men captured by the British in Charleston as they attempt to escape and claim the pensions they were promised. 

I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change is a witty, hilarious musical revue that takes a delightfully honest look at modern love in all its forms—from the perils and possibilities of the first date to marriage, parenthood, and the twilight years of life.

Told through a series of clever vignettes and memorable songs, the show follows the ups, downs, surprises, and absurdities of relationships as they unfold over the course of a lifetime.  Stories of love and violence, joy and survival—and what it means to come out the other side.  Fifty years after its first performance, Ntozake Shange’s groundbreaking choreopoem for colored girls who have considered suicide / when the rainbow is enuf returns in a powerful new production directed by Donna Wilson. Through poetic monologues, expressive choreography, music, and striking symbolic moments, seven women share stories that are deeply personal yet universally human. Their voices carry us through heartbreak and hope, struggle and resilience, loss and liberation. These powerful women take the stage not simply to tell their stories, but to invite the audience into them—to witness, to feel, and to remember. For Colored Girls… is an experience that reaches beyond race, gender, and individual circumstance, creating a shared theatrical journey that will stay with you long after the final moment.

The 1940’s Radio Hour is a lively musical by Walton Jones that transports audiences back to the golden age of radio. Set in December 1942, the show follows the final holiday broadcast of the Mutual Manhattan Variety Cavalcade, airing live from New York’s WOV radio station. Against the backdrop of a world at war, the music of the 1940s takes center stage, featuring beloved favorites such as “Strike Up the Band” and “Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy.” Behind the scenes, however, the broadcast is anything but smooth. A harried producer struggles to keep the show on the air while navigating a drunken leading man, a delivery boy determined to get his chance behind the microphone, a second banana longing to sing a romantic ballad, and a trumpet-playing sound-effects man torn between his love of music and his decision to choose a fighter plane over Glenn Miller.

Filled with humor, heart, nostalgia, and the unforgettable music of the 1940s, The 1940’s Radio Hour captures the excitement, uncertainty, and resilient spirit of an America at war—and celebrates the magic of live radio.
